SCFHS Residency Matching

SCFHS Weighted Score: Calculate Your Matching Estimate

Your GPA, SMLE score and CV points combined into one score out of 100, explained step by step.

University Admission or SCFHS Residency Matching?

The Arabic term "النسبة الموزونة" is used for two completely different systems. Make sure you are reading about the right one.

University admission mawzuna

For high school graduates applying to Saudi universities. It usually combines your high school GPA with Qudrat and Tahsili scores, and each university sets its own weights.

If you are a high school student, this page is not for you. Check your target university's admission portal.

SCFHS residency matching score

For medical graduates applying to Saudi Board residency programmes. It combines your medical school GPA, your SMLE score and CV points into one score out of 100.

You are in the right place. This is the score this page explains.

The Weighted Score Formula, Step by Step

SCFHS does not publish an official formula. What follows is the commonly used residency matching calculation, and it is exactly what our calculator computes.

GPA30 pointsYour medical school GPA, on a 4.0, 5.0 or 100 scale.
SMLE score55 pointsYour scaled SMLE score, from 200 to 800.
CV points15 pointsBonus points for research, experience and more.

How each component is computed

  1. 1

    Convert your GPA

    GPA points = (your GPA ÷ maximum scale) × 30. Works with 4.0, 5.0 and 100 scales. Example: 4.5 out of 5 gives (4.5 ÷ 5) × 30 = 27 points.

  2. 2

    Convert your SMLE score

    SMLE points = (score - 200) ÷ 600 × 55. The pass mark of 560 converts to 33 points, and a perfect 800 converts to the full 55.

  3. 3

    Add your CV points

Up to 15 raw points: published research +5, postgraduate degree +3, clinical experience in your first-choice specialty +3, healthcare volunteering +2, current employment at a health institution +2. The total is capped at 15 even if the items sum higher.

  4. 4

    Sum everything

Weighted score = GPA points + SMLE points + CV points, rounded to one decimal, out of 100.

How Your SMLE Score Feeds In

Because the SMLE carries 55 of the 100 points, it is the single largest component of the weighted score. Every 20 scaled SMLE points add about 1.8 weighted points.

SMLE scoreWeighted points (out of 55)
560 (pass mark)33
61037.6
65041.3
70045.8
80055

The pass mark of 560 is worth 33 weighted points before GPA and CV points are added.

How to Improve Each Component

GPA: fixed at graduation

Your GPA component is set once you graduate, so you cannot change it for matching. What you can do is make sure it is entered on the correct scale; converting on the wrong scale can cost you several points.

SMLE: your biggest lever

The SMLE is 55 of the 100 points and fully under your control. Scores are valid for 2 years, and official retake rules apply if your first attempt is not enough.

CV points: small but real

Fifteen points will not rescue a weak SMLE score, but at the margin they decide between two similar candidates. A peer-reviewed publication alone is worth 5 points.

SCFHS matching points in 2026 and the GP licensing pathway

A weighted matching estimate helps you plan a residency application. It is different from your SMLE examination result and from professional classification or registration. Use the calculator for an estimate, then check the current selection rules for the programme and application year.

Frequently Asked Questions

There is no official cut-off, because matching depends on the specialty, the city and the applicant pool in each cycle. As a rough guide from historical patterns, scores in the mid 70s or higher are competitive for most programmes, while the most competitive specialties in Riyadh and Jeddah often need more.
